An Alleged Nuisance at Alvechurch: Action against a Crofton Farmer: In the Nisi Prius Court, at the Birmingham Assizes, on Monday before Mr. Justice Channell, the case of Ashford v. Heynes came on for hearing. The plaintiff was George Ashford, of Tower Cottage, Alvechurch, and the defendant Jonathan Heynes, a farmer, Croton Hall Barnt Green, and the ground of complaint was damage caused by the defendant having deposited and retained large quantities of night soil on a portion of land close to the plaintiff’s house and approaches as to cause offensive smells … Mr. Hugo Young, Q.C., and Mr. C. Interesting Share Transaction: At the Birmingham Assizes yesterday afternoon Henry Webster, Stony Stanton Road Coventry, brought an action against Messrs. H. B. Barnett and Son, stockbrokers, Birmingham, to recover £244 9s 6d, amount paid for 180 shares in the Concentric Tube Company, which the plaintiff alleged were not delivered according to contract. Sales by Auction by Messrs. Warner, Sheppard and Wade: Mountsorrel, near Loughborough: Warner Sheppard and Wade have received instruction from the trustee of the late I. H. Bond, Esq., to sell by auction at their Mart, Halford Street, Leicester, on Wednesday 2nd March, 1898, at seven o’clock, the following valuable freehold property, in three Lots: Lot 1, Two well-built four roomed cottages with outbuildings and large gardens thereto belonging situated in the centre of Mountsorrel, containing and area of w rood and 31 perches, or thereabouts, now in the occupation of Mr. Barrs; Lot 2, a close of valuable meadow land with croft and large yard with gateway entrance and a frontage of about 22 feet to the Main Street ….adjoining Lot 1 and extending to the River Soar, having an area of 5a 3r 31p or thereabouts, also the occupation of Mr. Barrs; Lot 3, a valuable pasture and arable farm situate on the Mountsorrel Hill and extending to Rothley Plain road with the farm building thereon comprising barn, fold years, open sheds, implement hovel stable etc. The land is divided into six enclosures containing an area of 43a 1r 21p or thereabouts and in the occupation of Messrs. Morris and Barrs. This lot is situated in the Mountsorrel granite district and is practically adjacent to the well known Mountsorrel Granite Company’s quarries. The district is known to contain considerable quantities of valuable granite and it is therefore probable that this part of the estate is capable of future development, which will render it worth much more that the value of agricultural lands.
