Exeter and Plymouth Gazette: Friday 18th June 1897

Highweek: Mr. S. Segar, Sanitary Inspector, reported to the Highweek Parochial Sanitary Committee at their last meeting that he had received an account from the Newton Urban Surveyor for work done in Highweek Parish during 1896. The item of £8 6s 5d, half the cost of repairing the Bradley Lane Bridge, was disputed, notice having been sent to the Urban Council before it was begun that Highweek was not liable for payment. The Sanitary inspector said the report as to the neglected state of the Lemon sewers was exaggerated. Other items were also questioned, especially one which stated that 440 loads of refuse had been taken from the sewer. It was decided to defer payment until next month, and that a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. C. G. Vicary, W. S. Pinsent, T. G. Weatherdon, J. Dolbear, J. Olver, and A. B. Segar, further consider the items.
