Highweek: Mr. W. Vicary presided: All the retiring members, namely Rev. S. G. Harris and Messrs. W. S. Pinsent, C. G. Vicary, J. Olver, W. L. Shilston, J. Wright, A. B. Segar, A. H. Burge, W. Shapley, W. H. Jarvis, T. G. Weatherdon, J. Dolbear, W. H. Brock and C. Adams (Houghton Barton) were re-elected. It was resolved to raise by rate a sum not to exceed £200 for lighting the parish to the 31st March 1900.

SATURDAY: March 4th: Highweek parish meeting for the election of Councillors takes place on Monday evening in the infants’ schoolroom. Unless there is any opposition offered, it is understood that Mr. W. S. Pinsent, the Chairman, and his retiring Councillors will be re-elected. In the event of there being more than fourteen candidates for the vacant seats, a show of hands will be taken. Any three ratepayers can demand a poll, and then the election will take place the ordinary way, at a later date. There are no burning questions before the electors, now the question of amalgamation is virtually settled. The parishioners will be asked to consider, and if thought expedient, to adopt the Baths and Washhouses Act. A site for the proposed baths has been practically decided upon on the Kingsteignton Road, close to the Moreton railway line. This is a step in the right direction. The accounts of the parochial charities having been dissected and audited; the meeting will have to determine what amount should be voted for lighting purposes during the year. … …

At the Parish Council meeting which followed a letter was read from the Urban District Council giving the names of seven gentlemen appointed to confer as to the amalgamation of Highweek and Wolborough. Advertising the County: A public meeting, convened by Mr. Lewis Bearne, chairman Newton Abbot Urban District Council, and Mr. W. S. Pinsent chairman Highweek Parish Council, was held on Thursday afternoon at the Town Hall, Newton, to hear an account of the work, aims and objects, of the United Devon Association, promoted for the purpose of advertising the County. The Right Hon. Lord Clifford presided, and was supported by Mr. W. J. Watts, Jun. J.P., Mr. Lewis Bearne, J.P., Mr. A. B. Segar, Mr. W. S. Pinsent, Rev. S. G. Harris, Mr. F. Watts, Rev.
