Western Times: Monday 24th December 1900

Rugby: Totnes v Argyle: At Totnes on Saturday, before a moderate gate, a very pleasant game took place between Totnes and Plymouth Argyle team. The visitors started operations and attacked until Elias cleared and Hingston took play to the Argyle line … (discussion of game) … By combined forward work, however, the visitors forced Totnes to defend and from a scrum scored, but Coppin was unsuccessful with the conversion kick. Helped by a penalty, Totnes attacked for a while, but by loose forward work Argyle again forced play and Pinsent just stopped them in time. Play was on neutral ground, when time came. Score: Argyle, one try; Totnes, nil.
