Devon County Agricultural Association: The adjourned meeting was held on Wednesday at the Town Hall, when the attendance was much larger than on the previous occasion … Mr. Scratton said the Association was willing to hold their meeting here in 1875, provided the requirements of the Association were met, which, in short were that £300 be paid into Messrs. Sanders and Co.’s Bank, at Exeter, by the 1st January, 1875; 15 acres of approved level grass land with a sufficient supply of good water, 15 acres of land for the trial of ploughs, and other implements at a cost to the Society not exceeding 10s per acres, 10 acres of grass land suitable for the trial of mowing machines, etc. not exceeding £1 per acres, 5 acres of rye for the trial of reaping machines not exceeding £3 per acres, a guarantee that the rye shall be properly cultivated and manured so as to secure as far as possible a good crop at the end of May 1875.
