Chudleigh Band: County Court Action Against Former Secretary: Negligent, Not Fraudulent: Members of the Chudleigh Town Band were claimants, at Newton Abbot County Court yesterday in respect a sum of £13 16s from Mr. G. Froom, former secretary the band, representing sums received by defendant on behalf of the band. Messrs. A. J. Bowden, Chairman, William Pinsent, hon. secretary, and Charles Gill, hon. treasurer, cited as plaintiffs, were represented by Mr. J. Wood, of Newton Abbot. Mr. Wood informed his Honour Judge Higgins that the case was serious, because Froom had actually received the cash as hon. secretary of the band. He (Mr. Wood), however, thought the defendant had been negligent, rather than dishonest. … … His Honour made an order for the defendant to pay £1 per month.
