Laira Roads and Laira Mud: Disgraceful State of Affairs: … … … It was a most disgusting state of affairs: Mr. Short said it was bad enough in the old days, but since Plymouth Council had had to do with the matter it had been worse. The road leading into Tollick’s park was now impassable. A few days ago, a large quantity of mud was carried away and rubble placed in its place; but it was now as bad as ever and would get worse. He suggested that the borough surveyor should be written to on the subject. Mr. Pinsent stated that when complaining to the authorities, the association might also call attention to the state of affairs at Albert terrace. During the heavy rains of last week, the surface water from the School Board land crossed the road, ran though the gardens into the back, and through the houses. At No. 5 the tenants had to clear away quite half a ton of mud from their kitchens. …
