St. George’s Congregational Church: Anniversary Service: … On Wednesday evening the annual meeting of the church was held under the chairmanship of the Mayor, Mr. W. F. Splatt. There was a good attendance, and those present on the platform were the Rev. A. C. Gill, the Rev. R. Olver, Brixham, the Rev. J. Aylard, Paignton, Alderman Richardson, M.D, Mr. Aitken, Mrs. A. Kieser, Mr. Knight, Mr. Pinsent, Mr. R. J. Parr, Mr. Kennedy (Brizham,) Mr. Joyce, Mr. Viccars, Mr. Glyn, and Mr. Cole. About one hundred and fifty persons attended the public tea provided in the church. The tables were presided over by several lady members of the congregation. The Mayor, who was enthusiastically received, remarked that since his acquisition of the honourable office of Mayor of this important Borough, he had been asked to do many things which we willingly competed with, believing that it was in the general interest of the various parties concerned, and also to the town … (continues) …
