Skating at Stover: During the week the ice on the lakes in Stover Park has been in excellent condition. Hockey matches have been most popular. An exciting match took place between Newton and Torquay resulting in a win for Newton by seven goals to three. C. B. Kay (5), and A. Windeatt (1), J. I. Pearse (1) scoring for the winners, and C. W Crowdy (3) scoring for Torquay. Included in the Torquay team were Mr. Washington Singer, Dr. Pollard, Mr. H. Price. Mr. J. Taverner, and Mr. Saunders, all of whom showed good form. Newton team was Messrs. Kay (captain), Pictor, Pearse, Pinsent, A. Williams, W. Truman, Windeatt Cracknell and Carlyle. Many first-class skaters have visited the lake amongst the best being Mr. Gordon Cumming, Mr. C. H. Bardswell, Miss Edith Wolfe, and Dr. Pollard.
