Tamworth Herald: Saturday 30th July 1904

WILNECOTE: Cycle Parade and Football Contest: A cycle parade was held in the grounds of Wilnecote Hall, kind permission of Mr. Irvine Bailey, on Saturday afternoon. There were eleven entries. The successful competitors were: Best decorated bicycle and costume: Adam Hawley, Wilnecote, “Laundress”; 2, George Hawley, Wilnecote, “Travelling under many difficulties.” Any other style: 1 Miss M. Hulland, 14 Kettlebrook Road, “Tamworth, “Japan”; 2, J. Lloyd, Wilnecote, “Yachtsman and boat”; 3, Mrs. J. Ellson, “Florist.” Decorated mail cart or perambulator: 1, Miss D. M. Judkins, Dordon: The judges were Messrs. A. Fenn, J. Brown, and Pinsent. During the afternoon and evening, a six-a-side football contest took place, nine teams competing. The winners were Wilnecote Albion A, with Skey’s Rangers runners up. The prizes consisted of sets of medals of the value £2 and 30s respectively. Mr. W. Richardson, Fazeley, was referee, and Mr. J. F. Hopkins secretary. The Wilnecote Band discoursed music and dancing was also engaged in.
