Glass’s Party to Children: Members’ children were entertained by Glass W.R.I. at a Christmas party in the parish hall. Games and competitions were entered into with great zest. Prizes were given to the different competitors. Tea was provided, with bradies and biscuits. The feature of the evening was when Mrs. Pinsent, president, came to the hall with a balloon for each child. She also cut a huge Christmas cake and the Masters Pinsent handed round a piece to each person. Votes of thanks were given to the Commander and Mrs. Pinsent and family for their kindness.

Navy Menu is Tempting: Christmas cake, with icing three Inches deep, made its appearance at the Press Club at lunchtime yesterday. It was the gift of Paymaster-Captain H. C. F. Pinsent, R.N., general secretary of the Navy Week Committee, in recognition of the services of the Press to the Royal Navy and to Navy Week. The cake was made by the cooks of the Royal Naval Barracks, Portsmouth, and is the same as those provided for the lower deck messes of that establishment on Christmas Day. A specimen of the menu for Christmas dinner there this year accompanied the cake. It is: Consomme Julienne Roast Turkey with bread sauce and forcemeat stuffing Ham, with chipolatas, baked potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and parsnips Christmas Pudding with rum sauce Dessert, including nuts, apples, oranges, chocolates, dates, figs, bananas and crystallised fruits.

St. John’s Hill Caterer Sued: A Loan of £15: Before his Honour Judge Haydon at Wandsworth County Court yesterday, Robert Charles Enticknap, caterer, 64A St. John’s Hill, Clapham Junction, was sued by Mrs. Lena Catford, 33 Wimbledon Park-road, who claimed £15, money lent. Charles Pinsent, assistant solicitor in a firm of solicitors, said that in May this year his firm was instructed to act for both parties in connection with the sale and purchase of a lease of premises, 64A St. John’s Hill. The consideration was £125. It was arranged that the arrangements should be completed for the purchase. Witness asked the defendant if he was satisfied, and he said he was absolutely satisfied. Cost of a Refrigerator: Among the fixtures was a refrigerator in good condition which had cost over £120. On July 8 both parties attended at the witness’s office, and the witness supervised the completion of the purchase. At that meeting the defendant said he was £15 short of the balance required. Witness was instructed to prepare a receipt. It was arranged between the parties that the plaintiff should lend the defendant the sum of £15. Defendant told the judge that the refrigerator was not worth anything to him because of its being electrically A.C. The district was a D.C. one. The business had not turned out as he expected it would. He did not dispute the fact that he borrowed £15, and he was willing to pay it back at the rate of 10s. a month. That was all he could pay after meeting other Judgments, was given for the amount claimed, with costs.
