Glass Cookery: Glass W.R.I. Mrs. Pinsent presiding decided to change the hour of the meeting during the summer months from four to seven o’clock. Three cookery demonstrations were given – by Mrs. Duncan, Edinglassie, on the baking of fruit cakes; Mrs. Duncan, Belnaboth, on girdle scones; and Mrs. Cassie on the making of an omelette. Miss Janet Burgess delighted with a humorous Scots recitation “Jimmy,” The hostesses were Mrs. Burgess, Mrs. Fraser, Mrs. Mackie, and Miss Horne: Votes of thanks were proposed by Mrs. Pinsent and Mrs. Ingleby.

Glass Competitions: To Glass W.R.I. — Mrs. Duncan presiding: — Mrs. Ingleby gave a talk on embroidering coloured blankets and exhibited some of her own work. Mrs. Shand, secretary, reported on the year’s work and Mrs. Cassie, treasurer, read the financial statement — both very satisfactory. A guessing competition, organised by Mrs. Anderson, was won by Miss Brander and Miss Whyte (equal). For the best six eggs the prizes went to: — 1, Mrs. Fraser; 2, Mrs. Barron. The eggs were sent to Huntly Hospital.  Office-bearers were appointed for the coming session: — Hon. president, Mrs. Ingleby; president, Mrs. Pinsent; vice-president, Mrs. Duncan; secretary, Mrs. Shand; treasurer, Mrs. Cassie; other members — Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Burgess, Mrs. Duncan, Belnaboth, Miss Brander, Miss E. Fire near Oil Dump:  The fire which broke out on Friday at Pincent’s Farm, Theale, near Reading, formerly the English home of Mr. Samuel Insull, the American millionaire, did damage to farm buildings estimated at several thousand pounds. The fifteenth century residence was saved from damage. Sonning Fire Brigade prevented the fire from spreading to an oil dump.

Eminent Western Surveyor: Plymouth Funeral of Mr. Arthur Body: Many phases of West-country professional and public life were represented among the large number of sympathizers as the funeral of Mr. Arthur Body, the well-known West-country surveyor of Plymouth on Saturday. The interment took place at Efford Cemetery. Mr. Body died in a London nursing home on Wednesday at the age of 67. He was regarded as one of the foremost rating experts.
