New By-Pass “Cited”: Claims against County Council: Arbitration at Totnes: Mr. A Lloyd Thomas, official arbitrator at Totnes yesterday heard a claim by Mr. H. Jordan, motor engineer, of Plymouth Road, Totnes, in respect to the purchase price and compensation concerning Rosabelle, a house and property in Plymouth Road, Totnes, adjoining land acquired by Devon County Council for the purpose of the new by-pass road. … (concerns about reduction in property value, residence only usable as flats, and Mr. Jordan’s car park was losing business – County Council claims the property was low quality and there was still room for parking) … …  Mr. F. W. H. Pinsent, district valuer, Plymouth considered that the value of the property would be enhanced by the work the County Council were going to do. If full use were made of the car park by excavation, he did not consider there would be any loss of fees. …

St. Andrews Lady Engaged: The engagement announced between Robert John Francis Homfray, only son of Mr. F. W. H Pinsent of Higherfield, Horrabridge, Devon, and Ruth McKechnie, daughter of the late E. E. Morrison, of The Scottish Land Court, and Mrs. Morrison, St. Andrews. Mr. Pinsent, who is a member of a well-known Devonshire family, met Miss Morrison while he was working in a London hospital, as a final year medical student. Mr. Pinsent is a graduate of Cambridge University. Miss Morrison, who is a member of an old Fife family, was a student at St Andrews University, and graduated M.A. with honours. She is presently employed by a London commercial firm.
