Westminster and Pimlico News: Friday 30th October 1931

Crashed into Police Car: Gerald Hume Saverie Pinsent, of Fellows Road Hampstead. was summoned for driving a car without due care and attention. It was stated that in Lillie Road, Fulham, about 10.45 p.m. on September 12 he ran into the back of a stationary car containing officers of the Scotland Yard “Flying squad.” – A constable who had been driving the police car, said that the off-side rear wing of his car was damaged, and the petrol tank pierced, so that the petrol escaped. In cross-examination he agreed that the rear light of his car was not at the offside, but nearer the middle. Defendant, in the witness box, said the road was not well lit and that he was deceived by the rear light of the police car not being on the offside, which gave him the impression that it was further ahead than it really was. He applied his brakes immediately when he realized he was close to the other car, but it was too late to avoid a collision. Mr. Bingley imposed a fine of 20s and 10s 6d costs.
