Smith, Pinsent, and Company’s letter of the 8th inst.: We regret that we have Published ILLUSTRATIONS which are in any way copies of or taken from your designs.  We have delivered up to Messrs. Smith, Pinsent, and Company for you the Blocks from which the Illustrations complained of were taken. These Blocks were used exclusively for the purpose of the advertisement in Messrs. Martineau and Smith’s Journal, we have not in our possession any catalogues, circulars, or other papers containing any illustrations taken from them; and we undertake that we will not in the future use the said Blocks or any Illustrations copied or imitated from any of the designs belonging to or used by you. Birmingham County Court: Yesterday: Before His Honour Judge Chalmers: Claim by a Commercial Traveller: John Algernon Smith, metal dealer’s manager, Winson Green, brought an action against Joshua Stubbs and Co. (Limited), metal rollers, Vauxhall, to recover £34 4s commission, balance of wages etc, and the defendants issued a counter claim for £50, damages alleged to have been sustained by the plaintiff leaving without giving proper notice. Mr. Hugo Young (instructed by Messrs. Weekes, Howlett and Co.) appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Alfred Young (instructed by Messrs. Smith, Pinsent, and Co.) represented the defendants …
