£17,324 Raised for Hospital: Workers’ Fund: A Great Record: 8,000 More Members Wanted: …At the annual meeting of the Hitchin and District Workers’ Hospital Fund, held at the Hospital on Wednesday, it was stated that since the Fund was started a total sum of £17,323 16s 9d had been raised for that institution … (discussion) … Poor Response to Special Appeal: Mr. Hill said that although the school children in the area served by the Hospital had made a magnificent response to the Children’s Ward appeal. The response from the general public had not been so satisfactory as had been hoped, and he desired to emphasize that every penny received under that appeal was handed over to the Hospital. The Chairman handed three cheques to Cmdr. Clive Pinsent (chairman of the Hospital Board), and Mr. C. J. Widdows (hon. treasurer) remarking that they were not quite so much as they of the Workers’ Fund would have liked … Mr. C. J. Widdows revealed that the cheques handed to him and Cmdr.
