Nearly A Blaze: There was a narrow escape of a serious fire at St. Mildred’s, the residence of Mr. Pinsent, on Good Friday morning, He was burning some rubbish at the back of the house when a stronger gust of wind than usual blew the burning material to the drawing room windows. A coal box caught fire, the window panes caught alight, and the flames reached the bedroom windows. Mr. Pinsent shouted for help, and Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Hingston and Mr. Scott went to his assistance with pail-fulls of water; but at the twelfth pailful the supply ran short. Fortunately, the fire had then been got under. The incident, however, would seem to enforce the necessity of a constant supply of water, and the placing of a fire hydrant and a fire alarm at this end of the town.
