Stevenage: Women’s Voluntary Service: A meeting under the auspices of the Stevenage branch of the Women’s Voluntary Service for Civil Defence was held at the Town Hall on Friday, to form a British Red Cross Unit in Stevenage. Glass’s Party to Children: Members’ children were entertained by Glass W.R.I. at a Christmas party in the parish hall. Games and competitions were entered into with great zest. Prizes were given to the different competitors. Tea was provided, with bradies and biscuits. The feature of the evening was when Mrs. Pinsent, president, came to the hall with a balloon for each child. She also cut a huge Christmas cake and the Masters Pinsent handed round a piece to each person. Votes of thanks were given to the Commander and Mrs. Pinsent and family for their kindness.

Glass at Garden Party: The members of Glass W.R.I. were entertained at a garden party at Edinglassie Lodge by Mrs. Pinsent, president. They spent a very pleasant afternoon seeing the rock garden and having all sorts of competitions. After tea they were entertained to a cinematograph display by Mr. Andrew Pinsent. The winners in the various competitions were: —Miss Gauld, Parkhaugh (twice); Miss Fraser, Sawmill Cottage; Mrs. Milne, Invermarkie Kennels; Miss Agnes Milne, Waterside; Mrs. Anderson, Beldorney; Miss Duncan, Belnaboth; and Nurse Young. Mrs. Duncan proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs. Pinsent and the Masters Pinsent for their delightful afternoon’s entertainment.

Glass Demonstration: The making of paper flowers was the subject of an artistic demonstration given by Mrs. Mackay, Knock, to Glass W.R.I. — Mrs. Duncan presiding. She presented a box and some bouquets for prizes. The new committee were appointed: — President: Mrs. Pinsent, Edinglassie Lodge; vice-president, Mrs. Duncan, Edinglassie; secretary, Mrs. Watson; treasurer, Mrs. Mackie; committee —Mrs. Duncan, Belnaboth; Mrs. Fraser, Beldorney; Mrs. Macbain, Mrs. Gardyne, Mrs. Smith, Haugh; and Mrs. Watt, Blairmore Cottages. The competition for the best six eggs resulted: —1, Mrs. Duncan, Edinglassie: 2, Mrs. Anderson, Beldorney; 3, Mrs. Mackie, Edinglassie Kennels. The eggs were given to Huntly Jubilee Cottage Hospital. Votes of thanks were by Mrs. Duncan to Mrs. Mackay for her excellent demonstration, and to the hostesses, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Paterson, and Miss Wilson.

Glass’s Sale Success: The monthly meeting of Glass W.R.I. took the form of a cake and candy sale. Mrs. Pinsent of Edinglassie, president, introduced Mrs. Garson, Huntly, who opened the sale, and was thanked by Mrs. Duncan, vice-president. Miss Jean Macpherson presented Mrs. Garson with a small gift. Sales proceeded briskly for an hour or two. Everything was cleared and over £33 was handed to the treasurer. A dance followed to music by the Radio Follies, Huntly. Stallholders were Cake and candy —Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Thomson; nursing stall —Nurse West and Mrs. Gauld, Auldyne; jumble stall —Mrs. A. Smith: dairy — Mrs. Duncan; bran tub — Miss Bateson and Master Ewan Pensent; and ice cream — Mrs. Gardyne, Beldorney.

For Glass and Cabrach: Work of Nursing Association: Tribute to Cause at Sale: Glass and Cabrach District Nursing Association, assisted by the W.R.I., raised almost £31 by a sale in Glass Public Hall yesterday. It was opened by Mrs. P. C. Garson of Craigmore, Huntly. Introduced by Mrs. Pinsent, of Edinglassie Lodge, Mrs. Garson complimented the W.R.I. for undertaking the sale on behalf of a Nursing Association which covered a district where tremendous strain was placed on the nurse and the association. Public services might fail in snowstorms, but the work of nursing associations went on. There was no more worthy cause. Mrs. Duncan of Edinglassie expressed the thanks of all to Mrs. Garson, who received a gift from little Jean McPherson. Stallholders were Nursing — Nurse West and Mrs. Gauld, Auldyne; dairy — Mrs. Duncan, Edinglassie; cake and candy — Mrs. Thomson, Edinglassie, and Mrs. Anderson, Beldorney; teas — Mrs. Mackie and Mrs. McBain; ice-cream — Mrs. Gardyne, Beldorney Kennels. Nurse West expressed thanks to all who had contributed to the stalls and laboured for the success of the effort. A gift was won by Mrs. Shand, Deneath, and Miss Bateson and Master Pinsent, Edinglassie Lodge, also won prizes. The sale was followed by a dance.
