Concert in aid of the Bovey Football Club: On Tuesday last at Mr. Hellier’s Dolphin Hotel, Bovey, a concert was given in aid of the Bovey Football Club. Last year the club joined the County League which necessitated an additional outlay in the purchase of jersey suits, ropes etc. entailing expenses of between £4 and £5 more than the funds permitted, although at the commencement of the season the club had in hand a balance of over £4. It was in aid of this object the concert was held … (description of event) … “Spirit of the Storm,” was admirably handled by Mr. J. Moore, as was also “Mona” by Miss Pinsent (daughter of the late Mr. H. Pinsent, of Whitstone) who not only has a very sweet voice but used it with much artistic skill. Newton must have been agreeably surprised at being able to bring off a draw with Torquay Athletic on Saturday. Both teams were very weak, Newton having Jackson, Pinsent, Donkin, Windsor, Greenfield, Templar, and other good men absent for various reasons, while the Athletes were without Oliver, Harding Williams, Davies and one or two forwards, so that as far as absentees went there was not much to choose between the teams.
