Dartmouth & South Hams Chronicle: Friday 29th April 1904

What Dartmouth Wanted: What Dartmouth wanted was proof that cures were lasting. And this is exactly what is given here, in the words of one our neighbours over in Plymouth: Mr. S. Pinsent, who lives at 31 Morley Place Plymouth, is well known and respected. In an interesting communication received, he tells us in grateful words how Doan’s backache kidney pills permanently cured him of sciatica and kidney complaint. “What I went through no tongue can tell,” Mr. Pinsent says: “Many days I was in agony with sciatic pains and kidney troubles. I was constantly trying different medicines, but none of them did me any good. I had been suffering in this way for many years when I heard of Doan’s backache kidney pills. I determined to try them, and after the first box I felt a little easier. This encouraged me to go on with the medicine, and gradually I was brought round to better health than I had known for years before. The sciatica is quite gone now, and there is no sign of kidney trouble. I thought you would like to hear of my case, and if you would care to publish it, for the sake of others, you are quite welcome to. I ought to add that it was many months ago that Doan’s backache kidney pills cured me, yet I have kept well ever since; Doan’s pills cured me to stay cured (signed) S. Pinsent. If you are ill, write and fully describe your case to us. … (continues) …”

A CASE OF SCIATIC RHEUMATISM: PATIENT BENT NEARLY DOUBLE WITH PAINS IN BACK AND SIDE: The following case was brought to our notice by the Plymouth Co-operative Drug Company, of Cornwall Street in that town. The manager, in referring to it as an exceptionally creditable cure by Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills remarks that Mr. Pinsent is well known in Plymouth; and has told many about his cure. The following is the letter: — 31 Morley Place, Plymouth, 22nd January. 1902. “Dear Sir, — l am anxious that you should know what a wonderful cure your Dean’s Backache Kidney Pills have worked in my case. I suffered from sciatica for years and had almost given up hope of ever getting better. I was bent nearly double with the pains in my side and back and I could not walk many yards without resting. I had tried other medicines before I used yours, but not one bit of good did they do me. But I received very quick relief from Doan’s Pills. Altogether I have used 13 boxes of your medicine, and now I am well; the sciatica is quite gone, and I can walk splendidly. Seven of my friends are now using your pills, because they have been convinced of the medicine’s merits, by my cure. I believe in speaking as I find of a medicine, and I can honestly say that Doan’s Pills may be relied upon for kidney troubles. If you care to make use of my statement; you may do so with pleasure. I am well known in Plymouth, having lived in the same house for the past 26 years. Believe me, dear sirs, yours faithfully, S. PINSENT. On receipt of these particulars, we sent our representative some months later to see Mr. Pinsent, who then said: —There has been no recurrence of the sciatica since Domes Backache Kidney Pills cured me. It is splendid to be able to get about so well as I can now after being unable to walk for years. Although I have been taking long walks lately, I feel quite fresh after them. My health is grand to-day, better than it has been for years.” If you are ill, write and fully describe your case to us. We shall be pleased to give you the best advice in our power, free of charge. You can depend upon your letter being treated in strictest confidence. Doan’s Backache Kidney Pills are two shillings and ninepence (six boxes for thirteen shillings and ninepence). Of all chemists and stores, or post free, on receipt of price direct from Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W.

Plymouth is no Exception: The neighbouring towns teem with instances of local men and women who are frankly and unreservedly speaking out for the sake of others. It is gratifying to know that in Plymouth this generous feeling is not lacking. But it is even more gratifying to know that the Plymouth statements made many years ago are heartily endorsed to-day. Mr. S. Pinsent, of 31, Morley-place, Plymouth, says; “I have been a sufferer from sciatica for years, and I was so bad that I almost gave up hope of getting better. The pains used to strike right from the side down to the tips of his toes, and I was in such agony that I could not bear the clothes to touch me. It seemed as if something was trying to gnaw the flesh off my bones. The urinary secretions were out of order, too. I was so bad that I could neither walk, sit, nor sleep in comfort. I tried every remedy that I read of, or was told about, but all seemed in vain. At last my daughter advised me to try Doan’s backache kidney pills, and I got some. I did not get much benefit from the first box, I suppose, because I was so ill. I persevered, however, and after I had taken three boxes of Doan’s pills, I could tell they were doing me good. I kept on with them and took box after box until I was completely cured. The pain shifted gradually, but I had faith in Doan’s pills, and took thirteen boxes in all. I am glad to say how my faith was rewarded, for I have not been troubled with the pains since. I have recommended Doan’s pills to many people. (Signed) Samuel Pinsent.”  OVER 8 YEARS AFTER HIS CURE, Mr. Pinsent said: “I am glad to say that my cure by Doan’s pills has been a permanent one. I get a twinge of pain sometimes in cold weather, but a few of the pills soon put me right.” Doan’s backache kidney pills are two shillings and 6d per box, or six boxes for thirteen shillings and nine pence. Of all chemists and stores, or post free direct from the Foster- McClellan Co., 8, Wells – street, Oxford – street, London, W. Be sure you get the same pills as Mr. Pinsent had.

Early Morning Noises: Sir, – Reading in Friday night’s paper of a noisy motor-bicycle has prompted me to air a grievance of much the same sort. Every morning regularly at 6 o’clock two Corporation ‘buses stop outside 64 Salisbury road snorting, chuffing, changing gears, etc. The noise is terrible. It wakes my whole household. We can sleep through a thunderstorm, but not the noise of those buses: S. Pinsent, 64 Salisbury Road.
