Football Notes: Totnes took a weak team to Plymouth last Saturday, to meet the home XV, who were at full strength. … Pinsent can in no way be blamed for the tries scored against Totnes. He was worked very hard and did fairly well and saved more than one apparently certain score …

(elsewhere) … Pinsent was not as good as Churchill on the day’s play. He, perhaps, had more work but he seemed to be flurried the whole time …

Rugby: Duffin v the Rest of the County: I don’t think Devon will have to go very far for the half-backs this season. If the country trial match which took place at the Rectory Field, Devonport, yesterday afternoon was of no other service – which I deny – it undoubtedly assured us on this point … (description of game) … At back, Stidston missed an excellent opportunity of establishing strong claims to the custodianship by failing to kick to touch. Pinsent was the better punter though somewhat indecisive. Although it was a pleasing match and gave satisfaction to the Devon Committee. … Boyle’s XV: Back, Pinsent (Totnes) …

Totnes v Buckfastleigh: At Totnes, in showery weather, before fair attendance. … The home men rushed along the touchline, and attacked, but Hamlyn relieved, and Pinsent was tackled in possession in the centre … Just after Rodgers scored, but Pinsent failed to majorise. … Totnes put in a grand bit of passing, but Baker was checked just in time. The visitors came away smartly, but Pinsent kicked on, and Totnes following up quickly, lost a try by Butchers kicking too hard when they had no opposition, the ball going dead. After a short spell on the defensive, Butchers carried play to the opposing back. The “Bucks” broke away, and Pinsent was called upon. Baker put in a fine run, and assisted by Knott, the first named scored a clever try, which Pinsent again failed to convert. … Rumbelow relieved, and just after Pinsent saved a score …

(elsewhere) … Pinsent was given a good deal of work in checking the rushes of the visitors, and came through the test creditably to himself, but the three-quarter line was not tested as it might have been …

(elsewhere) … Argyle are to be met at Plymouth … The team to represent Totnes will be … R. Pinsent, back, … …
