Totnes Weekly Times: Saturday 8th October 1904:

Totnes v. Exmouth: At Totnes on Saturday in fine weather and before a good gate. … On the throw out Rodgers got away, and Totnes attacked, Hayman, Pinsent, Rodgers, and Holmes handling. The visitors cleared, but Searle, missing a pass from Pinsent, Satterly intercepted and went to the centre … Holmes returned the kick out well, and Exmouth cleared, but Pinsent kicked down the field again … Rodgers followed up the kick out, and passed to Rumbelow, and Totnes had the best of some open play. Phillips, sending to touch close to the Exmouth line. Pinsent secured from the line out, but Exmouth rushed out. … Exmouth were penalised but Pinsent’s kick at goal from the touchline failed. Totnes kept up a desperate attack; play coming right across in front of the goal, where Marley gave it to Pinsent who was held up by four. The visitors were penalized, and Pinsent’s kick went only inches wide …  elsewhere … After this the homesters woke up and made a prolonged onslaught on the Exmouth line. Several times they were almost over, but the defence was sturdy and effective. Pinsent was literally smothered by numbers when he had but to drop over the line with the ball and it was a bitter disappointment when he missed a penalty goal – by inches – when the Exmouth halves were penalized for over-eagerness. … They played unselfishly and should do well in future matches, in which however, they will not have the assistance of Pinsent, who is returning today (Saturday) to South Africa.
