Dartmoor Harrier Week: Mr. L. R. Netherton (Dartmouth), accompanied by Mrs. Netherton and Mr. H. B. Bartlett, arrived at their headquarters, the Duchy Hotel, Princetown, for the annual Dartmoor Week. The hounds, consisting of 16 ½ couples, were in the pink of condition, and as hares were reported to be very plentiful in the neighbourhood of Princetown, good sport was looked for, especially around Tor Royal and Peatcott. … … (description) … … Netheton’s hounds met at Forest Inn, Hexworthy, Tuesday; present. Mesdames Netherton, Maye, Rendle, Reed. W. Phillips, Hyde-Pearson, the Misses Bainbridge and Tew, the Master (Mr. Netberton), Mr. T. Maye (Master, Dart Vale Harriers), Messrs. R. M. Pinsent, W. Phillips. Mitchell, Wand, Jackson. J. Saltaun. A. Rowe, J. Smith (Moorlands), Nicholls, W. Gray, R. M. Ball (Torquay), H. Square (Dartmouth), H. B. Bartlett. (Dartmouth), Webber. J. R. Maddock (shoeing smith), R. Cleave (Hexworthy), R. Coaker (Sherburton), H. Coaker (Swincornbe). The morning broke cold and somewhat misty, but towards noon the sun shone brilliantly, and continued to throughout the day. Fortunately, a slight easterly breeze tempered the heat. The neighbourhood Forest Inn was first drawn, and hounds very quickly got online of hare, but changed on to fox, which afforded clinking run. Hounds ran fast on Rundleshoot Mine, getting entirely away from the field. They then swung round left-handed, went in over Crockern Tor, back to Cumsden Tor, and thence to Benjy Tor; again, turned left-handed down by the river Brimpts, and came hack the Forest Inn, where they were stopped. The field could scarcely follow over such a tract of boggy country. Hounds were soon on the drag of another fox, which led them over another queer bit of country. This probably accounted for the number of foxes lying in the open, no less than six being seen during the day. Hounds returned to kennels 5.30 p.m.
