Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta – 1900: … Dartmouth wins the Challenge Cup: … It is five years since the Dartmouth Club won this race. The Bideford crews hardly came up to expectations and were never really dangerous. In the final the Queen of the Torridge was quite unable to keep up the tremendous pace set by Dartmouth and Torquay. In addition to the cup, prizes values of £5 go to the crew of the winning boat and £10 to the club; second boat £18 to the club; third boat £5 to the club. First Heat: … description of event, won by Vera, Torquay A.R.C. … Second Heat: … Opposite the committee boat, Zarifa was half length in front of Queen of the Torridge while Kelpie was overlapping the latter. From this point Zarifa drew steadily away, and the issue was never in doubt so far as first place was concerned. At the higher marks, Zarifa held a good lead and increased it considerably on the pull down. Queen of the Torridge turned second, just in front of Kelpie, and after getting into the straight again, so completely out rowed the Totnes boat that the latter gave up. Zarifa and Queen of the Torridge afterwards rowed easily to the end, both having a place in the final. Zarifa was quite twenty lengths ahead of the North Devon crew. … …  0, Kelpie, Totnes A.R.C.: J. Windeatt (s), G. E. Windeatt, R. M. Pinsent, W. J. Gibson, J. Doran (cox).
