Commenting on last Saturday’s game at the Rectory Ground, Devonport, the “Mercury” says: “Albion Reserves showed excellent form against Totnes on Saturday, though they only won by eleven points to nothing … (continues) … (for Totnes) … Kinsman and Stoyle were the pick of the quarter line and Marley at half was a very nippy youngster. Pinsent at back was only beaten once.”

Devon Cup: Second Round: Tiverton v. Totnes: A good game resulted from the meeting of these teams at Tiverton in the second round for the Devon Cup. The homesters started and at once attacked but Totnes forced them back, and before the game had been in progress for many minutes, Pinsent landed a penalty goal for the visitors… (description of the game) … Tiverton then showed some pretty passing and Hughes was pulled down a foot from the rut. Norman placed the home side on the attack again, and Pinsent had to do some defending. … Tiverton re-opened with a forward rush, and the visitors retaliated in like manner. Pinsent was, several times, called upon and his strong kicks were invaluable … The visitors dribbled to the Tiverton quarter, but Hughes kicked high and caught Pinsent, and Norman outpaced several men and dodged Pinsent and scored. The game ended – Tiverton 1 goal, 2 tries (11 points); Totnes 1 penalty goal (3 points). …

Pinsent failed to goal … Even play followed, and then good play by Pinsent and Salter stopped another attack by the visitors. The first named was brought down in possession. H. Tucker, however, managed to clear. Pinsent was again called upon and returned to touch. … Some capital passing then took the visitors to the home line, where they tried hard to score, Day being held by Pinsent as he was going over.
