Birmingham Daily Post: Friday 29th September 1916

Birmingham Aviator’s Death: Second Lieutenant Philip Ryland Pinsent, the Royal Flying Corps, who has died of wounds, was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Pinsent, Selly Wick, Birmingham. Lieutenant Pinsent, who was educated at Horris Hill and Winchester, obtained his commission in the Royal Flying Corps in April. He went to the front early in July and was severely wounded in an air fight the 23rd inst., succumbing to his wounds the following day, the eve of his 19th birthday.

OFFICER OF THE NORTH STAFFORDS KILLED: Lieut. Laurance Alfred Pinsent, of the 7th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment, died on August 15th from wounds received at Gallipoli. He was the fourth son of Mr. R. A. Pinsent, solicitor, Birmingham, and was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Oxford. He received his commission in September last year and was promoted full lieutenant early this year. He went out to the Dardanelles about six weeks ago.

The Late Mr. W. P. Ryland: The funeral of Mr. Walter Proctor Ryland, of 7, Boyne Park, and late of Birmingham, took place at the Borough Cemetery on Saturday. The Rev. W. H. Parsons was the officiating clergyman. The principal mourners were Mrs. Ryland (widow), Mr. and Mrs. Pinsent, Mr. Ryland, and the two maids from the house. Canon F. N. Eden and Mr. Charles Ashworth were among those noticed present. Mr. H. Pink was the undertaker.
