Local and District Wills: Probate of the will of the late Mr. Howard Proctor Ryland, of Moxhull Park, has been granted by the Birmingham District Registry, to his son Mr. Thomas Howard Ryland, and his brother-in-law Mr. R. A. Pinsent, the gross estate being valued at £175,077. By the will, after various legacies to members of his family, with an annuity to his widow, and after making provision for his two daughters, Mr. Ryland leaves the residue of his estate to his son, Mr. Thomas Howard Ryland.

In the Chancery Division: Mr. Justice Farwell last week confirmed the finding of the arbitrators in the dispute between the HollyBank Trust Co. Ltd., and A. L. Vernon. Mr. McCardle appeared for the Colliery Company, and Mr. Upjohn. K.C. for Mr. A. L. Vernon, on a special case stated by the Company for the opinion of the Court upon the finding of the arbitrators, Mr. Charles Alfred Russell and Mr. John Dixon, and Richard Alfred Pinsent, of Birmingham, in a dispute between the Company and Mr. Vernon as to the price at which coal from their colliery at Essington, Staffordshire, was to be taken for the purpose of ascertaining the amount of the lessor’s royalties. The Company contended that all the coal sold by them was coal loaded into trucks within the meaning of the lease, and that in order to ascertain the sale price of coal the Company were entitled to deduct from the actual prices charged to the purchaser, not only sums or expenses paid or incurred by them in respect of any particular consignment of coal after it had been placed in the cart or truck in which it left the Company’s premises, but also additional sums for such expenses haulage, loading and unloading, maintenance of rails, etc., within the Company’s colliery premises. …

Birmingham County Court: … in re. Edward T. Oxborrow, of Victoria Terrace, Hockley, corn dealer. Application for discharge. Debts, £400; assets, nil. Mr. Brice appeared for the bankrupt and Mr. Pensent for the petitioning creditors. The matter came before Mr. Registrar Cole a few days ago and was adjourned before the judge. It will be remembered that the whole of the debts were due to the liquidators of two insolvent companies which the bankrupt took shares when he was a boy of 16. — His Honour granted the bankrupt his discharge subject to his paying the cost of the bankruptcy.

The testator bequeathed to his nurse, Helen Maria Coleman, £500; to his nurse, Gertrude King, £100; to other servants of twelve months’ service each one year’s wages; to his brothers, John Llewelyn Ryland, and Frances Henry Ryland. £500 each; to his son, Sidney Proctor Ryland £15,000, including London and South-Western Railway stock, London Gas Light and Coke Company stock and Buenos Ayres Railway stock; to his son Henry Proctor Ryland £16,000; to his son Walter £15,000; and upon trust for his daughters Alice Mary, wife Mr. William Albert Gardner, and Emma Louisa, wife Mr. George Roffey and Laura, wife Mr. Richard Alfred Pinsent and Susan Proctor, wife the Rev. William Flory, and his granddaughter, Gertrude Jennie Ryland Gell, £13,000 each, with the option to Mrs. Flory to take as part of her share at valuation of £2,500 the freehold church, Leamington, known as Trinity Church. The Late Mr. left his residuary estate to his son, Mr. Howard Proctor Ryland.
