Trades Procession Programme: At 11 a.m. the procession representative of a large number of trades of the town, started from Forde House. Already some thirty persons (employers) have volunteered to act on behalf of the different trades, and several hundred workmen were engaged at their trades and walking in the procession. Newton Abbot: Messrs. Rendell and Symons held an auction at Mrs. Easterbrook’s Old Commercial Inn, Newton Abbot, on Thursday, for the sale of several lots of freehold property. A large number of persons were present at the sale and good prices were realized … Lot 2, the Old Commercial Inn, occupied by Mr. Easterbrook at £30 a year, together with a shop, occupied by Mr. Burge, jeweller, and two cottages, realizing £17 a year was brought by Mr. Pinsent, brewer of Newton for £1,450. Lote 3, two dwelling houses and a shop occupied by Mr. Wotton, basket maker, and his sub-tenant, at a rent of £26 a year was also purchased by Mr. Pinsent for £420. …

Her Majesty’s Jubilee: Adjourned Meeting: On Thursday evening a large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Alexandra Hall, for the purpose of taking steps to celebrate Her Majesty’s Jubilee in this town. Mr. W. J. Watts, J.P., presided, and there were also present on the platform … in the body of the hall were also present … (list includes) … J. Pinsent …  (discussion of options, including either a library or a public bath) … The Committee are informed that a building for swimming and washing baths would cost about £1,500. This would be exclusive of the washhouse, or the purchase or rent of the ground. The annual cost and expenditure is estimated at about £100. A site suggested in Kingsteington road, the property of Mr. J. B. Pinsent, is found to be unobtainable. Another site adjoining the Bark Mill, and near the Kingsteington road could possibly be obtained at a rental of £25 per annum. The Jubilee in Devon: Newton Abbot: An adjourned meeting was held at the Alexandra Hall, Newton, last evening under the presidency of Mr. W. Watts, to consider what steps should be taken to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. Mr. C. Pope (hon. secretary) read the report of the Committee appointed to ascertain the relative cost of carrying out the different schemes and the amount of the subscriptions towards each. The committee was informed that a building for swimming and washing baths would cost about £1,500. This would be exclusive of washhouses or the purchase of the rent of the ground. The annual costs and expenditure were estimated at about £100. A suggested site in Kingsteignton Road, the property of Mr. J. B. Pinsent was found to be unobtainable. Another site adjoining the Bark Mill and near the Kingsteignton Road could possibly be obtained at a rental of £25 per annum …
