Portswood Workingmen’s Conservative Association: A meeting of the members of this associa- tion was held on Tuesday evening at Mr. C. J. Barnes’ Junction Inn, Portswood, when there was a very large attendance, the room being quite filled. Councillor Furber, the president, occupied the chair, and among those present were Captain Gibbs, Messrs. A. L. McCalmont, H. J. Pinsent, C. Goldstone, W. J. Miller, G. T. Pope, W. Tinkler, Temple, Kennell, J. J. Chapman, T. Madden, Barnes, Knox, Stephens, Wyatt, Olive, Groombridge, Frampton, Brown, Jones, W. Brundritt, J. Collins, Bodle, Meddox, W. Freeman, J. Page, W. Druitt, Morgan, B. Cook, D. R. Meldrum, and H. G. Whitchurch, (hon. sec.). Nineteen new members were proposed, and, as a proof of how popular the association has become in Portswood, we may state that at every meeting hitherto held its strength has been increased by about a score of additional members, a proof at once of what the necessity for such an association has been, and of how much its value is appreciated by the ratepayers of Portswood. Important discussions on the subject of rating, the sanitary condition of Portswood, and other interesting topics took place, and committees were appointed in relation to each.

Company and their Officials: We understand that on Wednesday last the final decision of the Board of Directors with regard to their establishment at Southampton was announced by the employees here. We have reason to believe that Alderman Lamb, the superintendent engineer; Mr. Campbell, the cashier; Mr. H. J. Pinsent, the superintendent provedore; and Mr. Bates the superintendent of stores, with the whole of the staff, will forthwith terminate their connection with the Company. The above-named gentlemen will, with others, receive such superannuation allowances as the length and values of the services entitles them to.
