Local News: Yesterday the funeral of Mrs. Neck, wife of Mr. J. Stevens Neck, J.P. of Great House, Moretonhampstead, took place at St. Andrew’s Churchyard, and was largely attended. The Rector (the Rev. S. D. Dewey) officiated. The bearers were eight tenants, viz. Messrs.W. E. Lavers, C. Bailey, G. Withecombe, J. Aggett, G. Ellis, G. Luscombe, F. Sibley, and J. Northcott. The mourners were Mr. J. Stevens Neck (husband), Mr. S. Newcombe Neck (father-in-law), Mr. H. Pinsent (brother), Mrs. Tapper (sister) Mr. G. Tapper (brother-in-law), the Misses Tapper (nieces) Mrs. and Mrs. Joll (uncle and aunt), Mr. and Mrs. Bridgman (uncle and aunt) ... (Etc.) …

Coming of Age of Mr. W. G. Hole of Bovey Tracey: Everybody spent a happy time at Bovey Trace on Thursday. The beautiful grounds of Parke, where Mr. W. R. Hole resides were thrown open from four o’clock until 6.30. It was to celebrate the coming of age of his only son, William Gerald Hole; which auspicious event took place on May 2nd … Two presentations were made to the young gentleman. One was made by M. J. Mann on behalf of the tenantry of Mr. W. R. Hole. It was a handsome silver loving cup on an ebony pedestal. On it was the following inscription: “Presented to William Gerald Hole, Esq., by the tenants of Parke estate, on attaining his majority on May 2nd, 1902.” The tenants were … (list includes) … H. Cornish and Devon Post: Saturday 19th July 1902

Fire Near Bovey Tracey: About six o’clock on Sunday evening a thatched cottage at Beina, the estate of Mr. W. R Hole, about a mile from Bovey Tracey, outbreak of fire occurred. The tenant was Mr. Tremlett, a farm labourer, in the employ of Mr. Pinsent. Mrs. Tremlett stated that the flames spread so rapidly that it was impossible to go upstairs to save anything, and that very few articles’ downstairs could be removed. Mr. Tremlett and another man, a lodger, were away at the time. Bovey Tracey Fire Brigade promptly responded to the call, but on their arrival the cottage was in flames throughout, and all that could be done was to save the outbuildings. Mrs. Tremlett. suffering greatly from shock, was kindly removed by Mr. and Mrs. Pinsent in a trap to Whitstone, where the burnt out family, including five children are at present being cared for. The loss to the Trembletts is great, as their furniture was not insured.

Festivities at the Parke, Bovey Tracey: Festivities in connection with the coming of age of Mr. Wm. Gerald Hole, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hole, of Parke, Bovey Tracey were held yesterday … The tenantry had subscribed together, their present consisting of a silver loving cup which bore the instruction “Presented to William Gerald Hole, Esq. by the tenants of the Parke Estate, on attaining his majority: May 2nd, 1902”. Those subscribing to this presentation consisted of Messrs. W. Aggett, J. G. Beer, J. Dayment, F. H. Harvey, J. Hopkins, W. Mann, J. Mann, H. Pinsent, J. Trebble, J. Trott, A.
