Cricket: The Britannia: Assault at Arms by the Cadets: Before breaking up the summer term the cadets of H.M.S. Britannia on Wednesday had an assault-at arms on their recreation ground at Dartmouth. The Band of the Britannia played during the afternoon: … (description) … Exhibitions on the horizontal bar, vaulting, horse and parallel bars were given by the gymnastic staff, and Cadets Halaban, Goolden, Royle, Acworth, Troup, Egerton, Pinsent, Nash, Green, Dawson and Simmonds. The prizes were afterwards distributed by Mrs. O’Callaghan.

Dartmouth & South Hams Chronicle: Friday 21st June 1901

H.M.S. Britannia v. Plymouth College: Dartmouth on Wednesday these elevens met in spite of the rain which prevailed nearly all the afternoon. The ship won a very exciting match by two wickets. Going in first, Plymouth College made a good start, the score being taken to 53 for three wickets. A fourth fell at 60 and seven runs later Mr. Pinsent, who had so far been the mainstay of the team and had been batting skilfully was bowled by Cadet Barnard. Half the side were out at 67. Four more wickets fell with the addition of less than 20 runs, but Mr. Martyn and Mr. Burns then made a good last wicket stand, putting on 25 runs between them before the latter was bowled by Cadet Malan. Mr. Pinsent hit four 4’s in a vigorous innings. Luckily, for the ship, Mr. Blackwell, another good batsman, was smartly taken by Cadet Lubbock with the score at eight … … (description of H.M.S. Cricket: Britannia v. Plymouth and Mannamead College: At Dartmouth on Wednesday the ship’s first eleven was beaten by 21 runs after a good match. For the visitors, Maxwell and Dick made a long stand for the fifth wicket. The former hit four 4’s and five 3’s, and the latter six 4’s and three 3’s. At one time by good batting by Cadets Harris, Gibbs and Boissier, it looked as if the ship would save the game, but a few minutes before time they were beaten by the good bowling of Sansom and Brook: Scores: Plymouth and Mannamead College: 169 all out (H. C. Pinsent b Boissier, 0): H.M.S. Britannia: 148 all out.
