Newton Petty Sessions: Tuesday Before Sir Samuel Baker, Admiral Cornish-Bowden, Mr. H. J. Watts, and Mr. H. E. Brown: Alleged Trespass: James Tibbs, labourer, was charged with trespassing on enclosed land in the occupation of Mr. G. Pinsent, of Kingsteignton, in search of game, June 4th. On the day named, the defendant, in company with two other men, were seen by Mr. Knowles, cattle dealer, of Kingsteignton, “trying” for rabbits, in a hedge of a field occupied by the prosecutor. Seeing him, the men ran away, leaving, however, four nets behind them. These Mr. Knowles secured, and recognised the defendant as one of the offenders. Defendant, who admitted the offence, was fined £1 including costs.

Newton Police Court: Tuesday: Before J. Whidborne, Esq., (chairman), Sir Samuel Baker, Admiral Cornish-Bowden, W. J. Watts, and H. E. Brown Esqrs. ……. James Tibbs, a labourer, was charged with having on the 4th June trespassed on lands belonging to Mr. Gilbert Pinsent, of Ware Barton, Kingsteington, in pursuit of game: Defendant pleaded guilty. Mr. Charles Knowles said he saw the defendant with two others ferreting a hedge belonging to Mr. Pinsent. They had four nets, which he produced. He didn’t see that they had any rabbits: Fined 20s inclusive.

WARE BARTON, KINGSTEIGNTON: Three Miles from Newton and Teignmouth: MESSRS. RENDELL and SYMONS have been instructed by Mr. Gilbert Pinsent, who is quitting this farm, to SELL by AUCTION, on the premises, on Tuesday, June 29th, 1886, the following LIVESTOCK, comprising 36 breeding ewes, 40 ewe and wether hogs, mostly fat; 52 ewe and wether lambs, 5 fat wethers, 1 ram, 1 cow in calf, 2 cows in milk, 7 ditto graziers, 6 two-year-old heifers, 10 2 1/2-year-old grazing steers, 16 18-months-old heifers and steers, 16 yearling ditto,9 rearing calves, a brown gelding, 6 years old, about 15.1 h.h., very quiet in saddle and harness, with plenty of power, active, and works well on the farm; bay mare, 11 years old, about 15.3 h.h., very fast and quiet in harness, a noted trotter, and splendid worker on the farm. The above is a most useful and improvable lot of Stock, the whole is healthy, and will be found in fair condition, but not up for sale; the Sheep have plenty of flesh, with good fattening qualities; the Horses are thoroughly good. Luncheon at 1; Admission by Ticket, 1s: Sale at 2 p.m. A conveyance will leave Newton Abbot Station at 12; return fare 1s 6d.
