Victoria Grounds: A 200 yards’ dog handicap, organised by Mr. J. Pincent, for which £6 in prizes is offered, was commenced at the Victoria Ground, Knighton-road, on Saturday afternoon. Despite the heavy downpour there was a good attendance of dog fanciers, and the racing, although only the preliminary portion of the handicap was run, was very closely contested. The card contained 69 entries, and out of these a fair number competed in each heat. Leicester Cricket Ground, AYLESTONE ROAD: There was a fair muster of spectators on the above ground on Saturday to witness the running off of the first trial heats of the company’s 130 Yards All England Handicap. The amount offered to prize money was sufficient to attract a large entry, among whom were peds. from all parts of the country. Over 50 of the 83 who entered went to the mark, and the running throughout was of an interesting character, while the finishes in some of the heats were as close as they well could be: Heat 1: G. Perkins, 22 3/4 yards, 1; W. Walker, Rothwell, 13 ¾, 2; J. Lumb, 20, 3; J. Wright, Thurmaston, 17 ½, 0; Fowkes, 22 1/2, 0. Won by a foot, after an exciting race; half a yard between second and third. Heat 2: J. Daft, 18 yards, w.o. Heat 3: Tegerdine, 21 1/4 yards, 1; A. Queenborough, Shilton, 18 3/4, 2; G. Pincent, 23 3/4, 3. Won on the tape; half a yard between second and third. Pedestrianism in Leicester: The second round and final heat of Mr. S. Brierley’s 130 Yards All-England Handicap were decided at the Victoria Grounds, Knighton Road, Leicester, on Saturday. There was a fair attendance, and betting throughout was brisk. Second Round: First Heat: J. Garner, 17½ start, 1; T. Pinsent, 30, 2; P. Alen, 22 3/4, 3; won by a yard and a half. Seond heat: G. Pinsent, 27 1/2, 1; W. Lambert, 29, 2; won by two yards: Third heat, J. Healey, 19 1/2, 1; J. King, 26, 2; Farrar, 26, 0; won by a foot; half a yard between second and third; Farrar fell when within a cople of years of the tape. Fourth heat: J. Wells, 19½, 1; S. 130 Yards All England Handicap: A 130 yards’ All England foot handicap, promoted by the directors of the Cricket Ground Company was commenced on the grounds at Aylestone on Saturday evening. The prizes amounted to L. 12 10s and this sum was sufficient to induce 50 professional “peds” to enter for the events, these being arranged in twelve heats. Of the number of entries above stated, however, 27 failed to put in an appearance, two of the heats being void and one resulting in a walkover.
