Plymouth Firm’s Rating Appeal: Issue of Factory Premises: An appeal by Messrs. Charles Harding (Plymouth), Ltd., with respect to the rating of their premises at 81, 83, and 85. Mutley-plain, against the decision of Plymouth Assessment Committee, was allowed, with costs, at Plymouth Quarter Sessions yesterday, before the Recorder (Mr. J. G. Trapnell, K.C.). Mr. J. Eminent Western Surveyor: Plymouth Funeral of Mr. Arthur Body: Many phases of West-country professional and public life were represented among the large number of sympathizers as the funeral of Mr. Arthur Body, the well-known West-country surveyor of Plymouth on Saturday. The interment took place at Efford Cemetery. Mr. Body died in a London nursing home on Wednesday at the age of 67. He was regarded as one of the foremost rating experts. Houses on Primley Hill: Arbitration in Dispute at Paignton: Land Acquired for Road Widening: An arbitration to decide a dispute as to price between the owners of land and premises at Primley Hill, Paignton, and the Paignton Urban District Council who had acquired the property to the purpose of road widening was held at Paignton Tuesday, under the Acquisition of Land (Assessment and Compensation Act.) 1919: … … (discussion) … … Many Houses with Cob Walls: ln his reply to Mr. Willmott, witness said that there were many houses in Paignton with cob walls. Mr. H. Pinsent. District Valuer of Plymouth said he did not agree with Mr. Body’s valuation, inasmuch as he did not think the cottage would be decontrolled within three years. He valued Nos. 1 and 2 in £230 and Nos. 3 and 4 in £200 which was the sum the latter houses were valued in in 1928 for estate duty. Mr. Pinsent, in reply to Mr. Eve. stated that it was possible to get exceptionally high rents in Paignton. With reference to the Paignton Steam Laundry Company’s property. Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 Laundry Cottages. … (continues) …   The District Valuer, Mr. J. Pinsent, held the opinion that the land abutting on the old road was worth only 9d. per foot, a part of Primley House and grounds to be valued at 1/6d a foot. Mr. Pinsent, replying to Mr. Eve, said Primley Park had been improved in value by £1000 as a result of the sweeping away of the slum property. When dealing with the land for allotments at York Road. Mr. Eve asked for the full value of £1,180 to be awarded.
