James Hinks and Son Ltd: The annual meeting of James Hinks and Son, Ltd., lamp manufacturers, was held yesterday at the registered offices of the company in Great Hampton Street. Mr. Joseph Hinks (chairman) moved the adoption of the report, which showed profits of £6,502. But for the Coal strike the trading year would have been an exceptionally good one and would have probably resulted in an additional profit of £1,000. The burden of the Insurance Act affected the company very seriously, because they employed a large number of workpeople. The most disappointing feature was that what Mr. Lloyd George promised to do in the Act was being done already by their firm in a way more acceptable to both the workpeople and the directors. Mr. Ross Pinsent having seconded, the report was approved. A final dividend of 13 1/2 per cent, for the half year, free of income-tax, making 10 per cent for the year, was passed for payment. Mr. Joseph Hinks was re-elected a director, and the auditors, Moore, Sharp, Parsons, and Co., were also re-appointed.
