Baronets: … … Mr. Richard Alfred Pinsent is one of the oldest solicitors in Birmingham, and a past president of the Law Society, of whose council he is the senior member. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Hume Pinsent, was the first woman member of the Birmingham City Council. Born at Devonport in 1852, he was educated at Amersham Hall, Reading, and at Edinburgh University. After being articled to Mr. Thomas Smith James he passed as a solicitor with honours and was a gold medallist. He became a partner in the firm of Pinsent and Co. in 1877. He was President of the Law Society 1918-19, chairman of its Statutory (Discipline) Committee, and president of Birmingham I.aw Society 1901-3 and 1926. An ex-officio member of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, he acted as chairman of its Law and Parliamentary Committee. He is a life governor of Birmingham University.

B.J.O.C. Cricket Trophy: The presentation of the senior cricket league championship trophy in connection with the Birmingham Juvenile Organisation Committee took place at a dance held at Bagley’s Dance Hall, Lozells Road, last night. The winning club was Aston Villa Wesleyans and the trophy which had been given by Sir William Waters Rutler was handed over by Mr. W. Hale, Chairman of the league. Two special bats accompanied the trophy for the leaders of the averages. Medals, presented by Mr. Roy Pinsent were awarded to the team members.

Lawyers’ Clerks: Problem of Pensions “When Past Work”: M. H. B. Carslake, presiding at the annual meeting yesterday of the Birmingham Law society, asked what was to happen to their faithful old clerks when they got past work. The salary which most solicitors were able to pay their clerks did not enable them to save very much. A pension scheme was being considered by the committee, but it was quite clear that clerks over 40 years of age could not benefit by it. However, members of the profession would have the satisfaction of knowing that they were doings something for the younger members. Mr. R. A. Pinsent joined in the hope that something in the nature of a pension scheme would soon be established for clerks. It was stated that the membership of the society stood at 415, of whom 100 were from outside the district. There were 399 solicitors in Birmingham, and 315 were members of the society.  …. …
