Duke of Gloucester: Birmingham Plans: Opening of Boys’ and Girls’ Homes: THE Duke of Gloucester is to pay an informal visit to Birmingham on Friday to open and inspect Kyrle Hall, Sheep-street, the home of the Birmingham Boys’ and Girls’ Union. He is expected to arrive about 9 p.m., and the visit will last about an hour: he will be accompanied by the Lord Mayor (Councillor E. R. Canning), and the Lady Mayoress, and by Lord Dudley with whom he is staying at Himley Hall. One of the features of the evening will be a singsong. The film of the last summer camp will also be shown. The duke will be received at Kyrie Hall by Sir Patrick Hannon, M.P., Mr. Roy Pinsent, and by Mr. Peter W. L. Johnston (the Warden). Mr. Johnston will present members of the Council of the Union to the Duke, who will afterwards go into the theatre, where between 400 and 500 boys and girls will be assembled. The Duke of Gloucester will then present the challenge cups for last season to representatives of the boys’ clubs. This will be followed by a tour of the whole building, including the Girls’ and Boys’ clubs and hostel: Detailed Programme: the detailed programme for the evening will be as follows: At 8.30 p.m. Mr. Roy Pinsent, the chairman of the Council of the Union, will present the medals to all boys who won them last season (except swimmers and footballers, who have already received them.
