Hockey: East Sussex trial Game: This trial, the first of its kind, was played on the Grasshoppers’ ground, Filsham Road, St. Leonard’s, on the 9th inst. It was very successful in unearthing one or two excellent players. Moreover, it is hoped that a game of this description will prove instrumental in giving hockey a decided fillip in this part of Sussex … … After the trial it was decided that the team to meet West Sussex on November 16th will be selected from the following: Boyd, Castle, Coles, Gamble, B. Higgins, C. Higgins, Johnson, Lermitt, Lovell, Major Pinsent, Pearce, Reay, Streeter, West, Westropp and Woolley.

Winchcombe Parish Church: The harvest services in connection with St. Peter’s Church commenced on Friday and continued on Sunday, full congregations being present at each service. The decorations were, as usual, on a lavish scale, the altar, font, and pulpit being of particular notice. The preacher on Friday evening was Canon P. M. C. Johnstone, M.A. (Vicar of All Saints’ Cheltenham), who preached a most interesting sermon, taking for his text, “We sow, others reap” The Rev. F. M. Wickham (Vicar) officiated at the Sunday services, and was assisted at Choral Eucharist by the Rev. J. Pinsent, and an evensong by the Rev. Crawley Boevey. …

Chudleigh: … The funeral of the late Mrs. Ann Pinsent, who died at Woodway Street on Thursday of last week, aged 73 took place on Monday afternoon at the Congregational Church, the interment being in the cemetery. The Rev. E. spry conducted the service. The chief ‘mourners were Messrs. W. and A. Pinsent (sons), Miss B. Paddon, Miss A. Pinsent, and Mrs. B. Prettyjohn (daughters). Mr. C. Heath (son-in-law), Mrs. E. Pinsent and Mrs. H. Pinsent (daughters-in-law), Masters W. Pinsent and W. Heath and Mimi D. Heath (grandchildren), Mrs. K. Luxton (niece), Mr. F. Heath, Mrs. C. Brimicombe, Mrs. Potter, Mrs. Sowden, Mrs. Froome, Mrs. Nixon, and many others. Beautiful floral tributes were sent by: — Mr. and Mrs. W. Pinsent and Willis; Bessie; Laura, Charlie, and Family; Albert, Hilda, and Family; Blanche and Jack; Ada; Winnie Heath; Sister, Brother-in-law, and Niece Kitty; Miss Manning; Mrs. C. Potter, Jack, and Lily; Mr. and Mrs. O. Brimicombe and Family; Willie Heath; Mrs. J. Lambell; Mrs. Reed; H. Baker; and Mrs. Wills and Cynthia. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. W. Shapley, and the bearers were Messrs. W. Tuckett, G. Froome, C. Cleave, F. Wills, C. Brimicombe, and F. Nixon. — The deepest sympathy is extended to the relatives in their sad bereavement.

Sperling and Co., London, share brokers, claiming over £41,000 as the price of over 13,000 ordinary shares in Baldwins (Limited). Swansea, alleged to be payable to plaintiff under a contract dated February 1920, between the defendants and the directors of Baldwins (Limited).  … … (continues) … … Mr. Richard Pinsent, solicitor for Baldwins in Birmingham, said the draft of the agreement of February 27, describing Sperling’s as purchasers, was approved by the defendant’s solicitors.

Deals in Shares of Baldwins (Limited): High Court Test Case: The action by Dr. William Farncombe, of Harborne, against Messrs. Sperling and Company, London, share brokers, claiming over £41,000 as the price of over 13,000 Ordinary Shares in Baldwins (Limited), Swansea, alleged to be payable to the plaintiff under a contact dated February 1920, between the defendants and the directors of Baldwins (Limited), was further heard yesterday before Mr. Justice Coleridge in the King’s Bench Division. The defendants denied any liability, and said they were only acting as agents for the Northumberland shipbuilding Company (Limited) … … (details of the case) …  … Mr. Richard Alfred Pinsent, solicitor, of Birmingham said he acted for Baldwins. He prepared the draft of the agreement of February 27, 1920, with Sperlings. Sperling’s were described as the purchasers, and that was approved by the defendant’s solicitors. He never heard before then that the Northumberland Shipbuilding Company were said to be the purchasers …
