Choral Competitions: At the competitions of the Social Institutes Union held in London last week, Miss Pinsent’s Choir once more won the Cup for choral singing (one madrigal and one unison song), with 97 marks out of 100 for the madrigal and 92 for the unison song. The judge remarked on the fine tone of this choir and said that they alone of all the competing choirs showed real understanding of true madrigal style, and that it was delightful to listen to their excellent performance. This is the fourth time Miss Pinsent’s choir has competed in choral contests, and they have not yet been beaten. In the duets competition two couples from Miss Pinsent’s Choir were bracketed 2nd and 3rd with 91% marks for each couple: Adjudicator, Mr. Thomas Dunhill.

Westminster Gazette: Wednesday 12th April 1916

The Academy of Dramatic Art: The annual public performance of the students of the Academy of Dramatic Art took place yesterday afternoon at the New Theatre and it was notably for the fact that the places were, with one exception feminine; so, the gentlemen who are usually learning to be actors are obviously doing their duties elsewhere. … (discussion of the event) … and among the other players during the afternoon may be mentioned the Tilda of Miss Maisie Horne, the Portia of Miss Amy Rean, and two special dancers, Miss Sybil Fage, and Miss Phyllis Pinsent. It was a very successful afternoon and proved that, though useful, man is by no means essential on these occasions.
