Coventry Standard: Saturday 25th May 1861

Barston: Warwick and Leamington v. Barston. This match which had been looked forward to with much interest, was played at Barston on Monday last, when the Barstonians came off victorious. The Bowling of Messrs. Gem, Elmore and Margetta was excellent and the fielding on both sides was good. The score, when the wickets were drawn was as follows: Barston: 1st Innings: 78 (included … W. Newton Abbot: Dispensary: W. Creed, Esq., presided: Dr. Barham presented the medical report, which stated that there had been 221 cases under treatment during the past year, of which 87 had been cured 109 relieved, 2 were incurable and 22 remained on the books. It was moved by Mr. Ford, and seconded by Dr. Barham, that the Earl of Devon be requested to continue as President for the ensuing year and that the Rev. F. S. Wall, and T. Pinsent, Esq., of Kingsteignton, be Vice-Presidents: Carried.

Exeter and Plymouth Gazette: Friday 5th April 1861

Newton Abbot: Dispensary: On Tuesday afternoon the annual meeting of the subscribers and friends of the Dispensary took place in the Committee Rooms. Present: W. Creed, Esq. (chairman), Dr. Barham, Capt. Leslie, R.N., Rev. F. P. J. Hendy, Rev. F. S. Wall, Lieut. Lethbridge, R.N., Lieut. Sweeting, R.N., Messrs. J. Creed, E. Ford, E. C. Kent, etc.  — From the report presented by Mr. Kent, the hon. treasurer, it appeared that the receipts of the past year had been £78 15s 0d and the disbursements £53 19s. The Medical Report was presented by Dr. Barham. It stated that there had been 221 cases under care during the year, of which 87 had been cured, 109 relieved, 2 incurables, and 22 remaining on the books.  It was moved by Mr. Ford, and seconded by Dr. Barham, that the Earl of Devon be requested to continue president for the year ensuing; and that the Rev. F. S. Wall and Thomas Pinsent, Esq., Kingsteignton, be vice-presidents. The names of Mr. J. Vicary, Lieut. Lethbridge and Mr. John Pinsent were placed on the committee, to supply the vacancies of the three retiring members.  Mr. Roberts, of Wolborough, was appointed collector. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the proceedings to a close.

Royal Cornwall Gazette: Friday 22nd March 1861 

Devonport, Stonehouse and Cornwall Hospital: At a Special Meeting of the Governors and subscribers to the Devonport Dispensary, held on Monday, the 18th March, 1861, for the purpose of considering a special report and proposals for the Establishment of a Public Hospital: Major General Hutchinson, Lieutenant Governor of Plymouth in the chair. The Special Report having been read, It was proposed by Mr. Woollcombe, as Chairman of the special Committee, seconded by William Clifton, Esq., and resolved with one dissentient, “That it is expedient to establish a Public Hospital in connection with the Dispensary, with the title of The Devonport, Stonehouse and Cornwall Hospital” and under the following patronage and general direction … (list of patrons, governors, and special committee … and list of donors) … including … Richard S. Pinsent … (and others) at £50 each.

Exeter and Plymouth Gazette: Friday 8th March 1861

The 5th Devon Mounted Rifles: About 20 members this company met at their headquarters, Magor’s Commercial Hotel. Newton Abbot, on Wednesday, whence they proceeded, under the command of Ensign Whiteway, to a field on the Kingsteignton road, kindly lent them by Mr. Pinsent, where they were put through a number of evolutions, very satisfactorily, by Drill Sergeant Ribbins. The company subsequently returned to the Commercial Hotel when several new members were enrolled.
