Pedestrianism on Mr. Clewe’s Grounds: The trial heats for Mr. Austin’s 115 yards handicap for £12 10s, were run on the Victoria grounds, Knighton Road, on Saturday afternoon, and despite the showery weather there was a fair must of spectators. The number of entries for the handicap was 130. The following were the starters and results for the heats: … Heat 17: J. Wells, 12¾, J. Roberts, 16½, T. Peake, 18½: Peake won. Heat 18: T. Dawkins, 17: Newman, 21; Simpson, Ansty, 17 1/4, Pinsent, 17¼, F. Marston, 16½, Dawkins, won easily.
