Borough Police Court: … … A Mean theft: Hugh Donoghue (50), Labourer, 27 York Road, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in York Road on May 26th. He was further charged with stealing, on May 24th, two chemises, value 2s 6d, the property of Elizabeth Pinsent – The prosecutrix in the second case said she lodged with the defendant’s son. The things were in the kitchen, and the defendant took them away – a pawnbroker’s assistant gave evidence by lending 1s 3d on the garments. – Prisoner, when arrested, said he thought the articles were his wife’s, and now repeated this statement. – There were 13 previous convictions, six for larceny – He was sent to prison for three months with hard labour.
