Mr. James Hinks, of The Cedars, Calthorpe Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, inventor and patentee of the Duplex Oil Lamp, Founder and head of the firm of Messrs. James Hinks and Sons, Lamp Manufacturers, etc. of 91, to 96 Great Hampton Street, Birmingham, for many years president of the Aston Villa Football Club, a well known patron of coursing, owner of “Plunger” the runner up for the Waterloo Cup in 1880 … … died in December 21st Last, aged 80 years … left estate of the gross value of £80, 107 8s 1d, of which the net personalty has been sworn at £79,935 13s 1d. Probate of his will with six codicils has been granted to his son Mr. Joseph Hinks, J.P. of Cheford Grange, Kenilworth and Mr. Richard Alfred Pinsent, solicitor of 6 Bennett’s Hill, Birmingham and Mr. Collison Tutin Parsons, chartered accountant of 120 Colmore Row, Birmingham, to each of whom for their services, the testator bequeathed 100 guineas … (description of legacies to family and charities etc) …
