Southampton Missions to Seamen: The local branch of this society opened on Thursday an institute at the Town Quay, Southampton, consisting of reading rooms and coffee bar. The house overlooking the quay is most conveniently situated, comfortably furnished and liberally supplied with newspapers and other literature with an attractive bar on the ground floor for the sale of non-intoxicant refreshments. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, Admiral Coote, C.B., presided at the opening ceremony, which was largely attended. Amongst those present being the Rev. A. C. Blunt (Rural Dean), Revs. J. A. Whitlock Forbes, (St. James’), J. Burkitt (superintendent missioner from the parent society, Dr. Davies and H. G. Hoskyns; Mr. R. S. Hankinson, Mr. G. Y. Mercer, Captain Brown, Mr. Goold-Adams, Mr. Pincent, Mr. Domoney (water side missoner) and several other ladies and gentlemen. … (description of the opening) …
