Joseph Burton’s second son, Alfred Thomas Pynsent, Joseph Burton’s second son, served in the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War (Australia, World War II Military Service Records: 1939 – 1945) and married Olive Victoria Davis, a “barmaid”, in Bankstown, in 1942. The Electoral Rolls tell us that Alfred Thomas became a “painter” after the war, although of what kind is not specified. He was probably a house painter.
Alfred and Olive lived on Duncan Street, in Arncliffe East in New South Wales in 1949. However, they were back living with Alfred’s parents (Joseph Burton and Ethel Maud Pynsent) on Smithfield Road in Cabramatta in 1954. They later settled on Shenton Road in Bankstown and lived there from 1963 until 1980.
Alfred died in March 1994 (Sydney Morning Herald: 23rd March 1994) and Olive in 2009 (Sydney Daily Telegraph: 7th April 2009). They had no children of their own – that I am aware of; however, family sources say they fostered a large number of children over the years.
