Leslie was the eldest son of Alfred Francis Pynsent by his wife Elsie Florence (née Jefferies). He was born in Hurstville, southwest of downtown Sydney in New South Wales. His parents had three more sons and three daughters in the years that followed.
Leslie grew up in the Sydney area, and the Electoral Rolls show that he was a “box maker” living with his parents in Belmore, New South Wales in 1943. Nevertheless, he was in Gin Gin (north of Perth) in Western Australia when he volunteered for the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (Service Number NX135563) during the Second World War. He was unmarried at the time and he gave his mother Elsie Pynsent, as his “next of kin” (Australia: World War Two Service Records: 1939-1945). I have not looked into his career in Service.
After the war, Leslie returned to New South Wales where he married Ivy Rose Taylor in Canterbury in 1945. The Electoral Rolls tell us that he was a “fireman” living on Nelson Street in Werriwa, Fairfield (near Sydney) between 1949 and 1963. They had three sons and a daughter while living there. The family moved to Dixon Street in Mitchell, Mount Druitt, in 1963. Leslie was a “store-man” when he died in North Curl Curl in Sydney, New South Wales in June 1978 (Sydney Morning Herald: 23rd June 1978) and was buried nearby, in Mona Vale. Ivy went to live with her eldest son in Dee Why in 1980 and that was where she died in July 1991 (Sydney Morning Herald: 23rd July 1991) She was buried near her husband.
It is not clear what happened to their eldest son; he may well be alive today. However, the second and third sons both married and had children. Their lives are discussed elsewhere. Their daughter was living with them in 1980. She may have married since then and be alive today.
