Victor Charles Pinsent was the only son of Frederick Charles Pinsent, a “master caterer”, and Jessie Maud (née Berrill). He was born in Walthamstow in 1907. I know very little about his early life – other than that he won half a crown (2 shillings and six pence) in a competition sponsored by the Daily Mirror when he was thirteen years old (Daily Mirror: Wednesday 29th December 1920).

Victor Charles was an “insurance agent” living with his parents at #18 Clifton Avenue in Walthamstow before the war (1939 War time Register). He may have been working in Croydon as a “Mr. V. Pinsent” represented a homeowner who objected to a council junction widening scheme that year (Croydon Times: Saturday 3rd June 1939). This could be a spurious linkage …

Nevertheless, I do know that he served in the “Royal Air Force” during the Second World War and married Doreen Louise Darling in Walthamstow Parish Church while he was in uniform in 1941. They had two daughters who married in 1967. I am not aware of any sons.

Victor Charles returned to the insurance business after his release from service. At some point, Victor and Doreen moved to Canterbury, in Kent. Victor died there in 1993, and his widow in 1997.
