Dennis was the eldest son of William Henry Pinsent by his wife Olive May (née Perry). He grew up in Newton Abbot with a younger brother, Roy Arthur Pinsent, in the 1930s. The England and Wales Register, compiled in 1939, shows that he was still at school. His brother’s name appears to be redacted. Dennis joined the “Devon Regiment” in the late 1940s or in 1950 and he Rita May Paul, a “shop assistant” in Newton Abbot while still in uniform in 1951. Whether he signed on for “National Service” or a longer term I am not sure. He was a Lance Corporal when his daughter was born in Newton Abbot the following year. She grew up and married in 1978.
Dennis and Rita moved up to Surrey sometime in the 1950s, and the Electoral Rolls tell us that they were living on Liberty Lane at Sayes Farm Caravan Site in Chertsey by 1956. What Dennis was doing there, I am not sure; however they returned to Newton Abbot in the 1970s and they lived on Ridgeway Road there through to the early 200s. Dennis died in the Torbay area of Devon in 2005 and Rita died there the following year.
