Exeter Flying Post: Saturday 31st August 1895

Poring over documents at my disposal, I have been able to compile a complete summary of the crimes, punished by death, which have been committed within this county during the present moribund century. In addition to preceding remarks, I shall have a few comments to offer at the conclusion of the following four paragraphs, which set forth the gruesome list in question. 1800-April 6th, James Pooley, John Trick, William Thorn, and Henry Pinsent, sheep stealing; John Dease, highway robbery; Richard Fisher, bullock stealing; J. Belson, stealing from the Dockyard. April 21st, Robert Boast, William Blades, Samuel Hughes and Thomas Hoest, uttering forged notes; W. Smith, highway robbery; John Allen, forgery. August 27th, Matthias Jewell and William Hockaday, house breaking; J. W. Pollard, forging a seaman’s will. … (Etc)
