Exeter Flying Post: 1st April 1885

Lady Day Vestries: KINGSTEIGNTON: Messrs. C. Knowles, P. B. Mann, G. Newcombe, G. Pinsent, and James Vallance were appointed to act as a Committee of Surveyors for the repair of the roads with a paid assistant at a salary of £10. This step had been made necessary by the dissolution of the Newton Highway Board. The assistant-overseer (Mr. S. Partridge) was unanimously appointed assistant-surveyor for the ensuing year. Messrs. W. F. Snow, G. Newcombe, John Stark, G. H. Hatherley and John Hern were nominated for overseers, and Messrs. F. H. Plumptre and G. Pinsent for guardians. A letter from the Teign Valley Railway Company was read concerning poor rates in arrears. Great satisfaction was expressed at the increased interest manifested by the large attendance of ratepayers.
